Well, as you may or may not know, Northside has a project that the Tyro team works on all year. It is called Tyro*May*nia. In a way it is like a senior project. They must thoroughly research a topic of thier choosing and present it in various forms. First they must present an oral report to their class, second the must creat a display to showcase their information on the topic, and thirdly they must work this booth or display on a public viewing night. These displays are like exhibits at a movie type 'science fair.' Their facts need to be presented in the fields of Mathematics, Science, Literature, and Social Studies/History. There are several awards that will be presented for best in show, best overal topic presentation, people's choice, and most charismatic presentation. We got to vote for our favorite 'booth' last night at the public viewing.

Well, Caitlin chose the country of Kazakhstan as her topic. We decied that we would already have alot of things she could use in her presentation. Not to mention a very cute Kazakh native :) lol And, we also had the added bonus of an inside connection! Our friend Nazym in Kaz was VERY helpful in supplying us with additional items we needed for the display. She sent us rocks for the science section, tri-lingual children's books in Kaz, Russian, and English) for Literature, and she also got Caitlin a traditional Kazakh Costume to wear! We appreciate her help so much!! It wouldn't have been the same without her help! She also sent a toy Dombra, some great Kaz pop music, candies to pass out, and some coloring books.

Today she will be showing her topic again, but to the rest of the 7th grade and eighth grade teams as they walk through. I can't wait to hear all about it!
Oh, we wanted to mention that there were some other really great displays. Caiti's friend Macy had a neat pagoda where she discussed the archeology of the Forbidden City in China, Ravi had a neat Tea Hut where he talked about teas, Yongmin had the domestication of chickens, and Karen did an Entire Korean Dynasty! Good job guys we loved your booths!

What a fabulous looking booth! I love it! We've been looking all over the net for a dombra, but to no avail. I really want one of those for our kids. I love those books as well! What a great idea! The kids look wonderful! I'm sure you are looking forward to summer as much as me :-) Congratulations on your honors with Mary Kay!
